Creating a WhatsApp deals group takes two minutes. Creating one that people open every day, click on and recommend to friends takes a bit more care. In this guide you'll build yours from scratch: niche, name, photo, description, admin settings and your first deals, with templates you can copy.
The short answer: pick one clearly defined topic, give the group a name that says what members will get, let only admins send messages, put the rules and posting rhythm in the description, and publish your first deals before you share the invite link. That way, the first people who join find a group that's already alive.
Before you start: choose your group's niche
The number one beginner mistake is opening a "deals on everything" group. It sounds like it will attract more people, but in practice every member gets dozens of products they don't want and mutes the chat. A clear topic does the opposite: people know exactly what they'll see, and every deal has a better chance of landing.
To choose, answer three questions: what do you know well (can you tell a good deal from a bad one?), what has deals every day (can you feed the group without forcing it?) and who can you invite (your network, your social followers, your customers)?
Storage, cleaning, small appliances. Plenty of daily deals and a broad audience.
Makeup, skincare, fragrance. A loyal audience that compares prices and buys often.
Diapers, clothes, toys. Repeat purchases and lots of word of mouth between parents.
Food, treats, accessories. Items people rebuy, which work well for bundle deals.
Games, consoles and accessories. Easy to split by platform: PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, PC.
Earbuds, phones, peripherals. This audience researches a lot, so price and specs matter.
If you already sell something, your niche is chosen: the group is for your customers. A beauty reseller creates a group for her clients; a gaming store creates one group per platform; an affiliate marketer picks the topic where they find the best deals, whether that's on Amazon, AliExpress or another store with an affiliate program.
Group, community or channel?
For deals, the most common format is a group: your message shows up in the chat list, just like a friend's, and a group holds up to 1,024 members. Communities bring several groups together under one umbrella, and channels are one-to-many broadcasts in a separate tab. We break down the differences in WhatsApp group vs community vs channel. To get started, a group is all you need.
How to create the group on your phone
The steps are the same as for any group. Menu names can change a little between Android, iPhone and app versions, but the sequence is this:
- 1Start a new chat
In WhatsApp, tap the new chat icon and choose New group.
- 2Add your first participants
Start only with people who already agreed to join: a partner, a friend who will help moderate or a second number of yours. Never add people who didn't ask.
- 3Set the name and photo
Type the group name and add the photo. You can change both later, so don't get stuck here.
- 4Adjust the settings
Open the group info and set who can send messages and who can edit the group details (more below).
- 5Write the description
Paste a description with the topic, posting rhythm and rules. Use the template in this guide.
- 6Post before you invite
Send the welcome message, pin it and post a few deals. Only then create the invite link.
Group name: say what people will get
The name appears in the chat list and on the invite. In a few words, it has to answer "what's in it for me if I join?". A formula that works: type of deal + topic + (optional angle). The angle can be a city, a price range or a platform.
| Weak name | Why it doesn't work | Strong name |
|---|---|---|
| Jess's Group 💕 | Doesn't say what the group offers | Home Finds by Jess |
| Offers | Too generic, like thousands of others | Beauty Deals Under $20 |
| GAMES!!! | All caps and no focus | PlayStation Deals | Games & Gear |
| Mike Store Official Sales 2026 | Long, with details that don't help | Mike Store | VIP Customers |
| Daily Deals 24/7 | Gives no reason to join | Pet Deals: Food & Treats |
Avoid promises you can't keep, like "the best deals on the internet" or "lowest price guaranteed". An exaggerated promise starts the relationship with suspicion.
Group photo: simple and readable at a tiny size
The photo shows up very small in the chat list, so less is more:
- One element only: an icon, a typical product from your niche or your logo;
- A strong, solid background color that stands out from your friends' profile pictures;
- Little or no text: if you use any, two big words at most, like "PET DEALS";
- The same look across all your groups, changing only the color or icon per topic, so members recognize it's yours.
Any free design tool will do. Test the photo by looking at your chat list: if you can't spot the group at a glance, simplify.
Group description: rules and rhythm up front
The description is the group's contract. It prevents most repeat questions and backs you up when you need to remove someone. Keep it short, in bullet points, with what matters: what gets posted, when, who can talk and how the links work.
🛍️ {GROUP NAME}
Hand-picked {TOPIC} deals, every day.
⏰ Posting: {TIME} to {TIME}, about {N} deals a day
🔇 Only admins post (so the group stays clean, just deals)
💬 Questions? Message {ADMIN NAME} privately
🔗 Some links are affiliate links: I may earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you.
💰 Prices and stock can change at any time. Check the store before you pay.
🚫 Not allowed: spam, links to other groups, selling without permission.
Invite friends who love {TOPIC}: {GROUP LINK}
If you promote affiliate links, keep the disclosure in the description, in the welcome message and in your deal template. Affiliate programs usually have their own disclosure rules, so read your program's agreement, and check the advertising disclosure and consumer protection rules in your country (e.g., FTC guidelines in the US).
Admin settings every deals group needs
In the group settings (under "Group info" or "Group settings", depending on your version), review these points:
| Setting | Recommendation | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Send messages | Admins only | Deals don't get lost among chatter, stickers and forwarded chains. |
| Edit group info | Admins only | Nobody changes the name, photo or description without you knowing. |
| Approve new members | On, if you want to filter who joins | Useful for VIP customer groups or when the link leaks somewhere unwanted. |
| Invite link | Created only after your first deals | Newcomers see a living group, not an empty chat. |
| Other admins | At least one trusted co-admin | Someone needs to moderate when you're offline. |
The invite link is in Group info > Invite via link, where you can send it on WhatsApp, copy it or show a QR code. If the link ends up somewhere bad, an admin can reset the link, and the old one stops working (WhatsApp Help Center).
Welcome message: pin it to the top
People who join through the link land straight in the chat. The first thing they need to see is a short message explaining the group. Post it and use Pin so it stays at the top.
👋 Welcome to *{GROUP NAME}*!
Here you'll get {TOPIC} deals that I pick myself, from {TIME} to {TIME}.

✅ Know someone who loves {TOPIC}? Share this: {LINK}
Some links are affiliate links. Prices can change, so always check the store.
Your first deals: what to post in week one
Your first deals shape how the group is seen. New members will scroll up and decide in seconds whether to stay. So post three to five deals before you share the link, and pick the best ones you can find:
- A genuinely good price that you checked against the price history, not just the store's "was/now" label. For Amazon products, Keepa shows price history charts;
- A popular product in your niche that most people recognize instantly;
- A cheap impulse buy to get the first clicks;
- Variety within the topic: don't post five pairs of earbuds in a row in a tech group.
Here's what a brand-new group looks like when it already feels active:

How many deals per day, and when
There's no magic number. Start with a few well-chosen deals spread across two or three fixed times, then adjust to how the group reacts. Predictability helps: when members know there are deals at noon and 8 PM, they come back. The times that tend to work, always in your audience's local time, are in the best times to post deals on WhatsApp.
Common mistakes when creating a deals group
After launch: how to grow the group
With the group set up and your first deals live, the next step is bringing in the right people. Your social media bio, a QR code, referrals from current members and partnerships with other creators are the most common routes.
